Sketching Leeds Hospital’s southern corner elevation

Representational sketching utilises many basic elements, including line, value, texture, the massing of shapes and volumes, scale, and — sometimes — colour.

For this quick, noncoloured ink pen sketch, my main objective was to render the proposed building design with a more loose feeling. Sometimes I find that a good balance between hand-drawn and digital renders at competition stages will stir the viewer away from focusing on technical details.

Leeds Hospital | hand-drawn sketch, 2002

This sketch was produced by hand, part of a larger PFI submission, back in 2002 at my time at Anshen + Allen, London office.
